Chris Derbidge had always been interested in art, especially in oil painting, but never the time or opportunity to pursue it. Born and raised in southern Idaho, Derbidge has spent her life hiking and camping in the Pioneer, Boulder, and Sawtooth mountains. After retirement, a friend took her to an oil painting class. She was hooked, and now is basically a landscape painter and the inspiration for her work comes from those memories. For June, the Art Source Gallery is featuring the photography of Jerry Kencke in a memorial tribute to this long-time gallery member. Jerry passed away in March, but not before he had created a completely new body of work.
In 2013 Jerry earned what he considered one of his most meaningful accolades. He was named a Western Masters Artist. He was the only photographer ever accepted into this fine-art organization with its 40+ year history of partnership with the Charles M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana
Throughout his 45-year passion for photography, Jerry was always fascinated by what you didn’t see. He loved capturing the patterns & shapes that were the essence of the “unseen” image. His dream was to do a full show of these images, a departure from his usual award-winning style of western life, botanicals and scenics.
Over the past 4 years, Jerry reviewed hundreds of slides, putting together what is now his final body of work. His unusual perspectives will give you pause, teasing you to see what he saw. He loved giving little hints in how he framed his shot, sometimes a bit a sky… or not.
In honor of Jerry’s dream, “PATTERNS & SHAPES – The Art of Seeing” will be on display throughout June; opening reception is June 6, First Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Featured musician is acoustic guitarist, Wayne White. Wine will be available from Indian Creek Winery.

Taking the opportunity to rise to the challenges of depicting the natural world that she has been investigating for years, Seda gives the viewer a small glimpse into the land that we respect, celebrate and hold in historic regard.
