See the Unique Beauty of These Linocut Prints

Laurel McDonald, a native Idahoan, draws from the life around her; from the sunflowers and iris she grows, the bouquets on her dining room table, the quail that walk the country lane, the crows, magpies, and ravens that patrol the western skies, and the desert she loves to visit, plus the many sisters she grew up with.     "Linocut printing is my favorite medium," states McDonald,  "but it's a very slow process.  I draw my image onto linoleum, carve it out, print it onto paper and then color it in with watercolor and gouache. The printing process allows me to make several images, but each image is colored differently and becomes a unique artwork. No two are the same, and each has its own beauty." Her opening reception will be May 5th at Art Source Gallery at 1015 Main Street.  This is First Thursday in downtown Boise and Art Source will also be featuring the music of Scott Pietsch AKA Bacon Drive and wine by Indian Creek Winery.  Stop in to learn more about McDonald's art form creations.  Reception hours are 5pm to 9pm on May 5th.  Her show will be featured throughout the month of May.  Gallery hours are 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday.  Check out the rest of our artists at artsourcegallery.com

Art Source Gallery is proud to showcase wood sculpture by Gary Holt Peer in June. Opening reception June 3, 6-9 pm, with music by JB Duo and wine by Indian Creek Winery. Gary’s work features smooth finely polished surfaces interrupted with openings that reveal roughness hidden within.

“I am interested in contrast,” says Peer, and his sculptures emphasize the difference between order/chaos, space/emptiness, geometric/organic. “In a time when technology presents increasingly synthetic material and the art world demands shock value, I believe the aesthetic significance of a living medium for my art is still a virtue,” he says. “While my work appears abstract, it is actually quite representational from a conceptual standpoint. It represents the logical order of things; i.e., the steady decay of all systems over time.”

Art Source Gallery is observing all current COVID-19 safety guidelines for indoor gatherings. We are open from 10:00 to 6:00 Monday through Saturday. Find us at 1015 Main St. in Downtown Boise, or on Concourse B at Boise Airport. Phone us at 208-331-3374
