Art Source Gallery will present Boise artist Shelly Johnson’s Urban Flower Series, a collection of watercolor paintings inspired by the resilience and unexpected beauty of flowers growing in seemingly neglected and abandoned places throughout the city.
The exhibition runs Sept. 28 through Oct. 31, 2026, at Art Source Gallery, 1516 W. Grove St., in Boise’s Linen District. An opening reception and meet-the-artist event will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Johnson developed the Urban Flower Series during her first spring in Boise. She was struck by the spectacular displays of flowers thriving in places where nature appeared to have been overlooked or forgotten. That experience became the inspiration for a series that explores the relationship between the natural and manmade environments.
“I invite my viewers to discover beauty in unexpected places,” Johnson said. The paintings celebrate the resilience of nature while drawing attention to the contrasts and juxtapositions found in an urban landscape. Flowers become the focal point within settings shaped by sidewalks, buildings and other elements of the built environment. As with Johnson’s broader body of work, the paintings emphasize strong composition, the portrayal of light and an exploration of color. The exhibition will include both studio paintings and a selection of plein air works created on location. Through watercolor, Johnson transforms ordinary urban scenes into opportunities for observation and reflection. Her Urban Flower Series encourages viewers to slow down and notice the beauty that can emerge in overlooked corners of the city.
The exhibition will be on display during regular gallery hours from Sept. 28 through Oct. 31, 2026. The opening reception on Oct. 1 is free and open to the public.

Art Source Gallery Presents "The Quiet Between the Horizons," Featuring Landscape Paintings by Lisa Bower
BOISE, Idaho — Art Source Gallery will feature the work of member artist Lisa throughout September with The Quiet Between the Horizons, an exhibition of realistic oil landscapes inspired by the fleeting beauty of the natural world. The exhibition opens with a public reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Art Source Gallery, 1516 W. Grove St., Boise. The reception will include live music and refreshments.
Through luminous oil paintings, Lisa explores the quiet moments found where earth meets sky. Her work captures changing light across mountains, rivers and rolling hills, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate the subtle beauty of the landscape.
"There is a moment in every landscape that asks nothing of us except to notice," Lisa said. "I am drawn to those fleeting conversations between clouds and land — the warm glow of evening reflected in still water, the cool hush before a storm, the golden hills illuminated beneath a dramatic sky."
The exhibition reflects years of travel and observation, with many of the paintings based on photographs Lisa has taken during outdoor adventures. Working in oil allows her to build translucent layers of color that create depth, richness and a striking sense of realism.
"The Quiet Between the Horizons is a collection born from countless hours spent observing how skylight moves across the land and water, revealing colors, moods and emotions that exist for only an instant," she said. "Each painting is an invitation to pause and experience the subtle drama that unfolds where earth meets sky."
Primarily self-taught through years of experimentation. She has exhibited throughout the Pacific Northwest, including at Art Source Gallery, Boise State University, the Western Idaho State Fair, Seattle Art Gallery and other regional venues.
Art Source Gallery is an artist-owned cooperative in downtown Boise's Linen District, featuring original artwork by local and Idaho artists in a variety of media. The gallery hosts rotating monthly exhibitions, artist receptions and special events throughout the year.
The Quiet Between the Horizons will be on display throughout September. Admission is free, and the public is invited.Additional information on the gallery online at ArtSourceGallery.com.

Join Art Source Gallery and featured artist Danica Factor in a celebration of "Discotheque". The opening reception Thursday, August 6 from 5:00 to 9:00p.m. features discovering the vibrancy of the disco era and includes music, refreshmets and art activities.
This body of work celebrates the vibrant intersection of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when movements for civil rights, women's liberation, and gay rights helped reshape what freedom could look like in America.
"Through color, pattern, and joyful imagery, I honor the courageous individuals who challenged exclusion and imagined a more inclusive future", said artist Danica Factor. "During the disco era, many people embraced love, self-expression, and community as powerful acts of resistance and hope. Disco became more than music or fashion — it became a space where people could gather, be seen, and celebrate their authentic selves."
In that era, the dance floor offered moments of belonging, joy, and liberation for communities that were too often marginalized. Inspired by the optimism, creativity, and determination of this period, these artworks reflect both celebration and progress. They honor those who advocated for greater equality while creating cultures rooted in connection and acceptance.
Viewers are invited to reflect on the power of community, the courage to be oneself, and the enduring belief that love can help move society forward.
Please RSVP to this free event so we can make sure we have the right amount of food and supplies for our art project. All music, food and the disco themed art activity are free. Thank you SO much for your support

Currency Worth Wearing!
Coin jewelry artist Aidan Poe transforms historic currency into wearable art
Art Source Gallery will present “Currency Worth Wearing!”, an exhibition featuring the coin jewelry artistry of Aidan Poe. The show explores the evolution of currency and its transformation into wearable art through handcrafted jewelry pieces.
Through rings, pendants, necklaces and other designs, Poe reimagines coins from around the world, turning historic currency into contemporary adornment. The exhibition highlights the artistry embedded in coins and examines how currency reflects culture, political shifts and historical change.
“Experience a timeline of currency and its transformation across the globe, showcasing history through an artist’s lens,” Poe said. “In a world fueled by e-commerce and digital currency, what happens to the physical money minted over decades?”
Rather than allowing coins to sit idle in collections or be melted down, Poe repurposes them using hand tools and artisan methods. The resulting pieces preserve the details and stories embedded in the original currency while giving them new life as wearable objects.
“I want to highlight the penny and its recent departure from our pockets, our ‘last two cents,’ and the historical changes between coin designs,” Poe said. “Namely the shift from Lady Liberty to our founding presidents.”
Poe’s interest in jewelry making began in high school, when he experimented with wire wrapping and lapidary techniques. He later began crafting coin rings from Idaho quarters for friends and family, developing the techniques that inform his current work.
The exhibition will run throughout June. An opening reception will be held during Boise’s monthly First Thursday event on June 4, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m., where visitors can meet the artist and enjoy live music and refreshments.
Art Source Gallery is located in Boise’s Linen District. Additional information about the gallery and exhibition is available online at ArtSourceGallery.com.

Boise artist Beth Trott will present a new exhibition of watercolor paintings titled “Upon Closer Reflection” at Art Source Gallery from May 5–30, 2026. An opening reception and meet-the-artist event will be held Thursday, May 7 from 5–9 pm at the gallery, located at 1516 W Grove Street in Boise’s Linen District. The exhibition features watercolor paintings inspired by close observation of the natural world. Trott begins with recognizable subjects (such as weathered rock formations, plants touched by frost, or patterns formed by tree bark) as a starting point, gradually allowing the images to bend toward abstraction. “At my core I’m a representational artist,” Trott says. “With this series, I feel a need to start with something real. I take reference photos of moments I find in nature and use them as a starting point. From there, I begin to loosen up, letting the color, movement, and patterns develop more freely through abstraction.” Watercolor plays an important role in that process. Its fluid and sometimes unpredictable nature allows the paintings to evolve beyond the original scene into something more abstract. Trott says the goal of the work is simple: to celebrate the beauty that surrounds us and encourage people to slow down and look more closely. “I believe nature is something we all share, something that brings us together when we pay attention,” she says. “Sometimes just taking a moment to really look at the details around us can reveal something surprising and beautiful.” The exhibition will include both earlier paintings from the series and new works created specifically for this show. Trott lives and works in Boise. She has a background in illustration for fantasy gaming publications and children’s books. Today, her watercolor paintings are widely exhibited and have received awards at the local, regional, and international levels. “Artistic Evolution” Featuring the Artwork of Russ Garn Opens April 2 at Art Source Gallery
Art Source Gallery will present “Artistic Evolution,” a featured exhibition of new work by Russ Garn, with a First Thursday reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the gallery, 1516 W. Grove St., Boise, ID.
The exhibition highlights Garn’s ongoing exploration of style, medium and creative voice. Working primarily in pen and ink with watercolor, Garn blends precise architectural rendering with bold abstraction in a style he calls “Pop Art Cubism.” His background in graphic arts and visual communications, along with experience in architectural rendering, informs the structure and perspective within his work.
“I have moved in new directions by a combination of internal urges, external influences, new creative techniques, or a desire to escape the stagnation of repetitive work,” Garn said. “Showing my work provides a way to express myself, to make a statement, to share ideas, and to connect with people.”
Garn describes art as “the glue that holds society together” and views creative expression as essential to sharing thoughts and ideas. His work draws inspiration from the world around him and invites viewers into what he calls an immersive experience — one that encourages slow looking and personal reflection.
A lifelong artist, Garn began entering art contests at an early age and later worked in freelance design, logo development and creative direction. He has also created large-scale murals and custom-painted motorcycles and airplanes.
The exhibition is available throughout the month of April, is free and open to the public. Art Source Gallery is located at 1516 W Grove St., in Boise, ID’s Linen District. Additional information on the gallery online at ArtSourceGallery.com.
