When I embarked on my therapeutic art journey several years ago, I began to recognize how
society perpetuates untrue and damaging narratives about women, both past and present.
These narratives often become internalized, serving as a critical voice that undermines our self-
worth and potential.
In my work, I use vintage papers from the 1890s to the 1930s, integrating them with vibrant
florals to challenge historical collective narratives. By presenting women from history in a
contemporary light, I aim to highlight their complexity, resilience, and tenacity—qualities
frequently overlooked in traditional portrayals. This approach prompts us to reconsider how we
view women in history and how we can present a more complete historical perspective. Most
crucially, it also asks us how we can cultivate a society that fosters empowering narratives for
women of today and for the future, allowing the next generations of women to step into their
authentic selves and not live in a story that society has created for them?
