Mark Shawver

I consider myself blessed for many reasons and not the least is my never-ending fascination with the lush beauty of God’s creation that is all around useveryday everywhere we go. It’s so easy to overlook the simple wonders of existence and the joy that they offer. When we slow down a little and open our eyes and hearts we begin to embrace the miracle of being alive and get in touch with the rich teeming life that fills our world. My paintings are an attempt at capturing often considered mundane overlooked scenes, places and moments that appear beautiful and extraordinary to me. Painting is an expression of the joy and gratitude I have for the life I’ve been given. I had a wonderful career as a graphic designer and I began painting in 2000. I paint in acrylic on canvas. Painting for me is an opportunity to continue to grow and develop my skill as an artist. I’m pretty sure this will be a lifelong endeavor which I’m fine with. That said as I slowly begin to gain a little wisdom at this stage of my life I have finally come to appreciate that famous saying “ the more I learn the less I know.” This wonderful quote by the famous 19th century American painter George Inness says it all, “The true purpose of the painter is simply to reproduce in other minds the impression which a scene has made upon him...to awaken an emotion.”
