Sheryl Jones is a transplant to Idaho, she was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has lived all over the United States, from Charleston, SC; Minneapolis, MN, Phoenix, AZ, Las Vegas, NV and now Kuna, ID. Sheryl has been using gourds as an art media for about 7 years, but has had many artistic adventures over the years, from fabric painting to needlework, to leather craft. The process of crafting a gourd is long, the gourd must first be dried, that can take up to 6 months, then the mold must be cleaned off the outside, and the seeds cleaned out of the inside. Many of Sheryls gourds are cut. The process is done using a jig saw with a blade about a half inch long to rough cut out the larger pieces and then the detail is hand carved with an X-Acto knife. Her gourds are designed with pyrography and colored with oil pastels.
