I attended Boise State College during the wonderful, radical 60's graduating in 1970 with a B.A. in fine art. I taught in public school systems in So. California and Idaho for several years. The old cliche "jack of all trades, master of none" often applies to art teachers. Attempting to expose students to as many mediums as possible often leaves the teacher with no focus along her own artistic path, This was my dilemma. I could paint, throw pots, draw and sculpt, but all without passion or proficiency until abou 15 years ago.

I'd been fascinated with the idea of gourds, but had never actually seen one. On a whim I signed up for a one day workshop on gourd craft, with the sole purpose of creating one piece as a prop to use in belly dancing. By the end of the day, I'd finally found a focus.

It's hard to imagine anything as simple as garden produce can have such magical qualities, but gourds do! Each one is different and unique and so much fun.
